RESEARCH SUPPORT

LIBRARY RESOURCES: (See Southeast Asia Collection) Under the supervision of its Librarian, and with Council contributions, Yale maintains one of most extensive Southeast Asia library collections in the United States, located primarily in Yale’s Sterling Memorial Library and various affiliated schools. Materials in the Southeast Asia Collection are in both western and vernacular languages of the countries covered, and primarily emphasize the social sciences and humanities. The Southeast Asia Collection Reading Room is located on the second floor of Sterling Memorial Library.

The Yale University Library began collecting material on Southeast Asia in 1899, when a teaching program focusing on the region was initiated. It was due to this early start that the library was able to acquire many of its now out-of-print serials, especially from the Dutch East Indies. >Click here for more information and for >links to the collection web site.

RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS: (See Grants to Students) The Council provides limited financial support for research-related purposes of Yale students with a demonstrated commitment to the field of Southeast Asian Studies. Fellowship assistance may be provided for pre-dissertation or masters thesis field work, supplemental language training, or other academically relevant projects as merited. Research funding including dissertation funding for Yale students is also available from numerous other sources within the University (see ‘Grants and Fellowships’ links at left for MacMillan Center and Yale University).
