Myanmar February 1

In the year since the Burmese military deposed the country’s democratic government and seized control, a resistance movement unprecedented in its intensity and the breadth of its appeal has emerged. From the crowded streets of Yangon to the most remote mountains of Karenni State, people from all walks of life have banded together to declare their refusal to be dragged back to dictatorship and to fight for a better world than the one they inhabit. In the words of the millions participating in resistance, their project is one of liberation.

This event will serve to recognize and mourn the enormous sacrifices that so many have made for freedom and document the conditions under which Myanmar has lived since the coup. It will also chart a way forward, laying out actions that attendees and their allies can take from New Haven, Myanmar and the world, to support the democracy movement.
